  • Play –  enjoy our large playground which overlooks the park’s main attraction, Wheatley Lake, and has activities for children of all ages. The park also has a sanded volleyball court.
  • Hike – take a scenic, self-guided hike on the 2-mile wooded trail that wraps around the lake. The trail is perfect for those of all hiking levels including children and is also dog-friendly.
  • Fish – various piers throughout the park are perfect for fishing in the 69-acre freshwater lake which is home to bass, bluegill, trout, and catfish. A freshwater fishing license (not available for purchase at the park) is required for those 16 and older. A trout stamp is required to keep any trout (5 per day limit). Fishing supplies are available for purchase at the park's concessions.
  • Boat - a boat ramp is provided for those with their own vessels (electric motors only) and provides easy access to the lake. Boats can also be rented at the park, such as pedal boating, row boating, canoeing, and kayaking.
  • Relax – picnic tables can be found throughout the park for you and your family to relax at, along with grills for your use.
  • Celebrate – spend time with friends, family, and/or co-workers in one of our many pavilions available for rental. Pavilions come in large to small sizes to accommodate any size party with grills and plenty of tabletop space and seating. To view the different pavilion options, click here, or contact the park directly at 301-932-1083.
  • Learn - on weekdays all of Gilbert Run's facilities are available to school groups through a reservation system. Groups must contact the parks office a minimum of two weeks in advance to secure a permit. Weekday school groups will be charged a reservation fee for the use of facilities.
